Creating desktop applications with Flash

Flash is capable of creating executable files that can be used to develop desktop applications, and these can be delivered as a download, on a DVD, CD or a USB drive. These applications can range from simple single-function programs to complex applications that have powerful functionality and have been extended with third party software and scripting. These applications are completely standalone and don’t require the user to install the software or download any plugins for them to function (although you could choose to install it if you wish!).

The most common use for these applications include promotional CD’s that contain a large amount of images, video or audio that you otherwise couldn’t send to your customers using traditional print, however a lot of companies are now starting to take advantage of Flash for development of full desktop applications.

When a user inserts the media into their computer, the application will automatically start making it very accessible for even the most inexperienced computer user. There are also lots of options available for styling the media, such as CD business cards, USB drives in the shape of other objects etc which make them much more interesting to the recipient and great for marketing campaigns!
